Nostalgic Memories

On Saturday night I had the pleasure of meeting some of Cathy’s (my mother-in-law) friends from youth group when she was a teenager. One of them lives in Murfreesboro so she and another woman drove up here to visit with them over the weekend.

We ended up having dinner at Marina’s, which is an Italian restaurant and pizza place in downtown Murfreesboro. Gray and I actually have plans to go there with Chad and Trina in December before the holidays get going. I have to say, the food was excellent!

Meeting her friends got me thinking about my friends. The majority of my close friends are from college. When I had the job over the summer, I re-connected with some friends from high school and it’s definitely not the same anymore.

Of course, in my case, my friends from high school were not from a church group, that can make all the difference. Sure, I had some great friends from high school that are Christians (Hey Kaylee!) and it definitely makes a difference. It’s amazing how much five or six years can make a difference. I’ve been out of high school for almost six years now, in another four I’ll be having a high school reunion. That’s just so strange, I feel as though I just left there.

Anyway, my friends that I met in college, the majority are Christians and are very dear to me. I’m not saying you have to be a Christian to be my friend, but it’s easier to be friends with someone who shares your faith. I’ve been down both roads and I can totally testify the difference.

So as we near the Thanksgiving holiday, I guess you could say I am thankful for my friends that have stuck with me through everything. I have a few friends who are overseas and I’ll tell you guys a little about them. First off, Teresa is in Japan where she teaches English to elementary age children. This is her third year over there, I think. Teresa made a huge impact on me in college. She was my RA my sophomore year in college. That year I grew more as a person that I have since or before. She discipled me and helped me grow in my faith. I can never repay her for what she did for me.

Next up is Kaylee, hey Kaylee! Kaylee was one of my best friends in high school and we’ve been able to keep in touch over the internet. She’s over in Germany with her husband, who is in the Air Force. I’ve been living vicariously through her because I’ve only ever been in the Frankfort airport. Kaylee got married about two years before I did, so it’s been nice to have a good friend to hear about marriage from. Around here there aren’t too many married people who will actually spend time with me or talk with me! Love you Kaylee!

Finally, Ginger is over in Sweden right now. I love this girl because she’s going something that takes a lot of guts and she was a co-bible study leader with me last year. She’s gorgeous, smart, and faithful.

So I’m thankful for my friends and my family. I’m grateful that I’ve been blessed with a new family this year. I can’t wait to spend my first Thanksgiving and Christmas with Gray.
