Nursing School

Ok, so I said changes were coming and they ARE.

See, I graduated from college a year ago and I’ve had a lot of trouble finding a job in my field. Then the economy crashed into a recession and I saw many newspapers folding or cutting jobs. I realized that finding a job would be even harder and miserable.

So I thought through some options. I could either get a job locally to pay for bills until Gray got out of school or go back to school. I chose the latter because I’m realizing that I WANT to work a job I’ll like in the end. I’ve thought through a few options such as grad school, but realized that it would be a waste with my current degree.

Then I thought of nursing. The human body is fascinating to me. I love watching shows like Grey’s Anatomy (even if they aren’t exactly realistic) and realized I wanted to do something like that. Well, medical school and all that jazz would be too much money and time and I don’t really want to be a doctor. Instead, I want to be a nurse.

Today as I met with an advisor, it became clear to me that I’m on the right path. I will be spending the next year taking pre-requisites so that I could apply for the nursing school at MTSU by the end of the fall. If I get in then, I would graduate in May of 2012. I’m unbelievably excited about the whole thing.

Today I finalized my financial aid and got a campus job. I’ll be able to work where Gray works, the computer lab on campus, a few hours each week. Over the semester I will be able to earn raises and eventually make up to $11/hr! I plan on taking a summer class, so it will be very helpful for this summer as well.

So, the next few weeks I will be studying Biology to prep for my Anatomy and Physiology class and enjoying my last few weeks of freedom. It’s going to be a long year!
