Vaccinations… this is why you need them.

Nursing school, remember that aspiration I have? Well, it turns out that in order to have a complete application for nursing school and be accepted, I must have proof I am vaccinated and have a positive titers on five-six disease including: Measles, Mumps, Ruebella, Varicella, Hep-B, and TB.

I spent the past few days calling around to the doctor’s office and my high school to find my records. I had to do this because my mother doesn’t know what she did with mine. In fact, she says she carried it around in her purse for years and now? Who knows. Love you mom!

Of course, this whole ordeal has taught me in the future keep FANTASTIC medical records of your kids!

So, I called the nursing department and they tell me one thing, health services tells me another, and then my doctor’s office told me yet ANOTHER.

Sigh.

Today I finally got everything squared away thanks to my lovely husband who made a final phone call so I wouldn’t have to make it while I was crying. Yes, CRYING. It is the second time I cried over this because it’s been frustrating. I hate being talked down to as though I am stupid. I’m NOT stupid, I just can’t find records or know exactly what you want unless you tell me EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT.

I have a test on Friday of my titers. Basically, they will test my blood to see if the vaccinations I have had helped me develop immunity. If the tests come back positive, all is well, if not, more vaccines. I will have to get the varicella (chicken pox) and the TB skin test done though. Sigh.

/end rant

On a side note, tonight we’re having tacos and watching some Friends and Wolverine. I hope I can relax.

Do you remember in bible study when Jenny Rone went through something like that? And her records were over 10 years old, so she really had an ordeal? She warned us all to make sure we have our immunization records handy. And seriously not a week after that happened I needed mine for something. I guess to be able to graduate? I don't remember. We contacted my high school, who said they don't keep the records after a year. (really? a year? what good does that do anyone??) So the only way to get mine was to get a print out from the Metro school board, and I just remember it was complicated, but not too much of a pain. While we did all that we got copies of all my school records so I wouldn't have to go through it again. Now… if only I could remember where I put them…. lol! New life goal, own a filing cabinet!

Trina » I do remember that, and I was lazy. Although, going through my high school would not have given me all the records, just a few. It turns out my doctor has a lot more.

That's weird about your hs. I know mine still has mine, not sure how long they keep them for though. Considering it's been 6 years, I'd wager 10.

At least the metro school board had a copy for you, I'm not sure how we would have gotten mine if the doctor hadn't still had them.

Filing cabinets are awesome. Too bad I just gave away our mini portable one to Goodwill. I'd suggest you start with one of those until you need a bigger system. That's what we did the first year of marriage and then I found a free one on craigslist.
