Weigh-in, training, and running shoes.
So the challenge is over. Last week I weighed-in at 152. I was pretty sad I had gained back the weight I lost, but I began the challenge at 154 so it wasn’t a total flop.
This week I am down to 148.8. The main difference being that I’ve been sick the past week and lost my appetite. I would have big meals here and there, but my hunger has gone away. Not sure what is going on, but honestly, I am glad I haven’t been bingeing on cookies.
For those who are still keeping up, I decided to stick with gluten-free. I won’t go super out of my way at restaurants if it’s difficult, but our meals at home are all gluten-free. It makes me feel better and it’s definitely healthier. I’ve had a few “side effects” from eating gluten since the change so I know gluten does affect me somewhat.
This past weekend I finally got some new running shoes! I also came away with a new sports bra, new running socks, and some compression sock sleeves! I wore all four yesterday on my run and it was pretty awesome. The compression sleeves definitely helped me out and I didn’t have to use my heating pad on them last night! I do have another issue though, my right foot starts falling asleep after running and from what I can tell it could be a few things: 1) my shoes are too tight – However this happened with the old ones as well, so not sure about that… 2) I have shin splints and it’s getting so bad it’s cutting off circulation down there – most probable cause, going to have to stretch more before running. 3) I could have anterior compression syndrome which would not be good.
I’m still training, despite the week off. I’m supposed to run 8 miles on Saturday. *dies*
The raft post will be up as soon as possible.

I've gone gluten free too – today I posted one of my recipes. And what do the compression socks do?

@Renee, They aid in recovery, but you can wear them while running and it will help keep blood circulating better through your legs. I suffer from major charlie horse and calf muscle issues after running so I was desperate!
I'll have to check out your recipe.

I'm guessing you have issues with your shoes. I used to have that issue as well, which I fixed by getting another new pair of shoes that let me piggies move around a bit. That and my other ones were too tight on my arch.

@Mel, Well, I literally just got fitted for the new ones, by a podiatrist, so I'm not too sure. I told her my problem and she thought it might be because my old shoes were old. I'm going to try and stretch ore and see if that helps next time.

Bummer on the toes falling asleep. I get that randomly, but not because of my shoes. I think it's more of a low blood pressure thing for me. I would definitely look at how you're lacing your shoes. Maybe loosen them up towards your toes?
Congrats on the awesome loss, and good luck with you 8-miler this weekend! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Your feet can swell up to a half of a size when you work out. I've noticed that when I'm really working out I can have the same problem. I make sure to have shoes that are roomy in the toes. Unfortunately, it is something that can continue even with the right shoes. I've changed my shoes and they have less issues, but every now and then it happens again.

@Kathleen, I think it might be the too tight thing because I tend to lace mine pretty tight… I think I'll try a looser approach and see what happens.
