The First week of school

Oh my goodness, where do I start?

I’ll start off with school. We’re both back in school and my life is gone. Seriously, it just left and said, “See you for Christmas.”

Anyway, my schedule is pretty packed. I leave for worked around 5:45 a.m. and come back home about 4-5 p.m. everyday. I pretty much don’t want to be social because I need some Becca time these days.

I’m working 18 hours a week and taking 12 hours. Gray is working 20 hours and taking 12 hours as well. However, he only had four classes and I have six. My classes: Intro to Accounting, Pilates, Microbiology, Micro Lab, Into to Women’s Studies, and Professionalism in Nursing. I like my classes so far, but I will be doing a lot of studying, esp. in Micro.

This past week has been quite straining. On Monday the lab closed because the cleaning people had put something in the carpet that was making everyone sick. I was constantly coughing and sneezing. An industrial hygienist came to look and gave us a really weird explanation about it coming from the elevators. It did not. On Tuesday we closed down so that new carpet could be put down in the main lab. This made everything MUCH BETTER. ON Wednesday they finished the offices. Yesterday it was all nice and smelly good. Seriously.

Other than all of that, I’ve had to deal with some pretty horrible people. We’re supposed to enforce student ID swiping to get into the lab. We do this because student fees pay for our lab to run and so only students should be let in. We don’t have access to look up information, so if an ID doesn’t work, we can’t prove they go here. It’s very frustrating to deny someone and have them get upset about something I don’t control. You wouldn’t try to go to a concert without a ticket and expect them to just let you through the gate.

Anyway, for the second time in the past eight months I had someone ask to “See my  manager.” I laughed inside when they were told THE SAME THING I TOLD THEM.

The joys of working in a job immersed in customer service.

So, I know I didn’t post about my weight loss this week. I gained about two pounds, but I just started a weight training challenge, the EA Sports Active 30 day challenge to be exact. It involves a LOT of muscle training so weight gain is inevitable. I am also in a Pilates class so hopefully I will become fit and fierce this semester. I like having a class like pilates because I know fit working out in my schedule on a weekly basis, it’s great!

Let’s see, others news… we got rid of the gigantic TV we got off of freecycle and bought a brand new HD TV from Sams. We also re-arranged the living room and it actually looks nice! We will be adding a small bookshelf to keep school books on, but other than that, our living room looks much less cluttered, yay! The new TV has been great and a nice treat to begin the school year. We also got new health insurance for Gray and myself. I was 0n BCBST and Gray had none, so now we’re both on the school’s plan. Their plan is SO much cheaper.

It’s been neat to go through and mark off bills as well, we were able to pay off a credit card completely so now we’re working on paying off the other one. I’m not completely against credit cards, but I do think you shouldn’t use them unless you can pay them off immediately. This means, using one to pay for gas and going home and paying it off. Otherwise you can wind up in trouble. We’re also building up a savings account because the main reason we used credit cards in the past was because the car broke down or something similiar and we had no savings or extra money. It’s a nasty blackhole to spiral into and I’m glad we’re that much closer to being out!

I’ll post pictures of the new living room arrangement as soon as I can remember. Right now this semester is already kicking my butt so I have a lot to adjust before I can go crazy.

The good news about this week was I saved almost $400 on school books by renting from chegg.com. I even found a promo code where I got free shipping! It’s even cheaper than buying books used, so I’m pretty happy and so is Gray.

This entry is scattered because I really didn’t want to write up different ones to tell you everything, like how we went to a bajillion stores before we bought the TV. sigh.

Spring Cleaning

I’ve been itching to spring clean the apartment lately. A few weeks ago I wanted to get rid of some stuff but never really looked through our things. This weekend I got the bug and starting trying to weed out what we don’t need. First off, we decided we didn’t need the TV stand anymore and then I decided we could do without the DVD tower. We ended up selling the DVD tower on Craig’s list and we’re still trying to sell the DVD stand.

We sorted through our DVDS and made a keep pile and a sell pile. Believe it or not, the keep pile is still over 100 dvds and the sell is probably 30-40!! We have a lot of movies, but realized we never watch them and now that we use Netflix, there is no need to buy movies anymore.

So we put the DVDs we wanted to keep into a travel case and stored the boxes in our closet. I will be going on ebay and trying to sell the DVDS for a reasonable price. I actually sold all my Sims 2 game discs last night so I can purchase the new Sims 3 game this week! I’m really excited about this and can’t wait to share details about that after Tuesday. It’s kind of funny because I sold all my Sims 1 game discs to buy the Sims 2… must be a tradition. :)

Gray still has no job, but he’s been keeping busy. I start back to school tomorrow and I’m so ready for July to be here and have a good grade in A&P II. Can’t I just skip to July and get an A? :)

What a weekend

We overslept for church today, but it turned out to be a nice quiet morning. We were able to spend some time together and enjoy the lazy morning.

Friday, after a productive morning, I picked Gray up from work and he decided to do some job searching. We found out State Farm closed earlier than expected and drove around to a few places. Verizon Wireless has a call center in Murfreesboro that is hiring, however, it is for full-time and you go through extensive training. In other words, it would be a waste of time for Gray to apply and go through all of that, only to quit in the fall. We also went to a few computer stores in town, one of which Gray was really interested in working at. Outside of Play N Trade, a local gaming store, we ran into a fun friend.

Mario

That would be a guy, dressed up as Mario. Gray was told he could do this job and get paid a whole $7 a hour. Hah.

Yesterday we went out searching for a pantry for our kitchen. Since we are staying here for another year, I wanted to make sure we have adequate space for all our stuff! We went to a few stores before finding our pantry and Big Lots. It’s really neat and has two wired shelves on the side for all our pants and pans! Inside are three shelves which store the bigger food items and some appliances.

Pantry

Last night was also a fun time because of the storms. We got lucky and only saw fierce wind and rain. Other parts of town saw much stronger winds that did some severe damage.

Storm

Tonight we experimented with a new recipe and now I’m making blueberry muffins, for breakfast this week. I am about to go study for a while, but I’m distracted by Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

Final Week Single

So we’re 5 days away from being married and still can not believe it! This weekend I had my bachelorette party while Gray watched Iron Man with a bunch of guys. My party was so much fun. The roomies and Dera went to see Made of Honor and then we drove to downtown Nashville and ate at the Old Spaghetti Factory. After that was a trip to Hustler’s, a rather risque shop. I had a blast and I’m very prepared for the honeymoon now. ;)

Tomorrow we are have a counseling session with our officiant about sex, it should be interesting. We also need to set up our Renter’s insurance. Wednesday we’ll be packing and Thursday we’re driving to McEwen. I hope the week flies by because I so need a vacation and the Bahamas are calling my name. :)

Sick… bleh

So over the weekend, I apparently picked up sickness or as I like to call it, hay fever. It all began with a sore throat that progressed to sneezing, stopped up nose, a slight fever and now a runny nose. Luckily, it’s happening during finals week for Gray, which means I’m not missing out on much anyway.

We actually have me mostly moved into the apartment and now I’m working on finalizing the wedding programs and timelines for the big day. This weekend is graduation and my bachelorette party and then it’ll be down to single digits for the wedding countdown! We’re both extremely excited and sooooo ready to be married!

Marriage License

Finals are this week for Gray and after that we’ll be quite busy moving me. It’s going to be a busy 12 days. :)

Moving

So Wednesday we were packing Gray’s room to get ready for the Thursday room. I told Gray he should call Gateway and see when they open their office. When he called they said we could come get our keys and sign our lease today. So, naturally, we did.

Yesterday was when we had to move Gray out of the apartment. He had to be out by today so that they could get his room ready for the next guy, Tim, who is taking over his lease this summer. We managed to have him moved out by 5:00 p.m.

This weekend we’re going to be parent’s house for a night to get the remaining furniture needed. They are giving us my old bookshelf and a chest and possibly more! Last night Gray and I purchased a computer desk/bookshelf combo so our apartment is coming right along. We’ll probably get a couch from Craig’s List or Goodwill, whatever is cheaper at the time.

We’re going home this weekend for another reason, to obtain our marriage license. It was one of the only times we could go, and I’d rather have it done than wait until the very last minute. We’re both excited and can’t believe that the wedding is in only 2 weeks!

Bills, Dresses and more!

Today was soooo busy and was I glad! After spending Tuesday in the apartment all day, I was ready to get out today. I packed my day so I had plenty to do.

After checking the mail, Rachel and I headed over to the dress shop so she could get fitted for her bridesmaid dress. It looked beautiful and it turns out she’ll need the top taken in and hemline fixed, but it looked great. After 3 months of waiting on them, I was a bit anxious.

After the shop we headed over to Sonic because it was happy hour and I was thirsty. We spent some time checking in on each others’ lives. We had a “OH MY GOSH YOU’RE GETTING MARRIED!!” moment when I told her it was 24 days away. That seems crazy to me, but it’s becoming more realistic. What am I going to do when there isn’t a countdown anymore? It’s like life leads up to this big defining moment and then I’m married for the next 50 years… hmm.

Rachel dropped me back at my apartment where I proceeded to go with Gray to create accounts for our electric and water bills. We went electric first and discovered we needed our ssn cards. Great, those cards that are at our apartments? Hmm… So I convinced him to try the water department and see if we needed anything extra for there. Nope, nothing extra… good… that was now setup.

We raced back to the apartment, I ran up and got both of our cards (just in case…) and we went back to the electric department. We found out that the connection fee there is $58 instead of $30 but we don’t have to pay a deposit because of Gray’s great credit score, woohoo! So now are electric and water is setup for Gray to move in to the apartment next Thursday. In a week. Wow.

We stopped by the post office to get some change of address information and then headed back to the apartments where we swam, worked out and had dinner before I drug him back out to return a movie rental and go to Target. Poor guy, it was a busy day.

Tomorrow I’m going with Trina to get her dress stuff taken care of, packing for Memphis and finding time to relax. Friday we have a pre-marital counseling session before leaving in the afternoon. I’m just excited to get out of town for a few days and even more excited because my parents are going to be at my shower!

Life is a bit crazy right now but I’m enjoying it. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for us.

26 days to go

Things are starting to get a bit crazy around here. As of today there are 26 days remaining until our wedding. This just blows my mind. Today I set my calendar before me and updated it with different things and my next two weeks are pretty much booked solid. Crazy!

This week will be spent running around doing errands. We need to start packing Gray up because he’s moving into our apartment in 10 days. Ahh! I know that if we wait until the last minute, he will definitely not be packed. We also happen to be moving him out right before finals and I know he’s going to be stressed so I’m going to try and help as much as possible so he won’t be so stressed. This week we have to go and setup our utility bills so that when he moves in when have electricity and running water. When did I grow up? I seriously can’t believe it. Yes, I have bills to pay now but having them in marriage seems more serious. I don’t know…

It’s quite weird because my roommates told me the last two months would fly by and they have, but it still has felt like forever. Now I’m 26 days away and that comes down to 3 weeks and some change. That combined with a lot of stuff to do equals very busy days ahead for me. I really can’t wait until the wedding is over and we’re settling into married life. We’re both so ready for this change. I’ve enjoyed being single and having roommates and now I’m ready to be married with one roommate for the rest of my life.

I just hope he realizes that I don’t share covers very well.

Bridal Shower Numero 2

HuggingOriginally uploaded by becsaboo

So, this past weekend Gray and I travelled to McEwen for my bridal shower with my church, family and friends in the area. It was amazing!

My Aunt Sue and her daughter, Carol, put together the event and my mom’s best friend, Kathleen, decorated. I had around 30 show up, not including the several guests who dropped presents or cards off but couldn’t stay.We opened our gifts first and were blessed with several great items to start our home off right. We also received a rather large amount in the monetary value which we’re saving until later to figure out what we’ll need the most.My family overwhelmed me with their love and support and I truly feel blessed knowing how much they support our marriage.

It was a lot of fun and I got to see some family I hadn’t seen in a while. While in town we also went to my cousin’s 50th wedding anniversary. Gray got to meet a lot of family that even I don’t remember. He put up with a lot of family this weekend. We really enjoyed this weekend and now we’re 33 days away from the BIG day! My life is starting to get a bit busier as I’m trying to plan out timelines for the big day and last week that I am single. This Thursday is Trina’s birthday so I’m planning something with the roomies and of course every day we get closer to moving Gray to our new apartment.

I am thankful with everything God has blessed Gray and I with and I hope that the next month goes by without too much stress. I want to enjoy this time because before I know it, I’ll be married!
