I am currently sitting up in my bed with the laptop. It’s cold and rather than cuddling with the cat on the couch under a blanket, I’m cuddling with the laptop and the cat is trying her best to find a way to get my wedding rings, sitting on my nightstand. Yes, I take my wedding rings off at home/when I sleep because my ring fingers wells up otherwise.

It’s been a dreary few days here in Nashville and I think we can finally admit defeat, winter is here. It’s not that I dislike winter, but I was enjoying being able to take daily walks with my husband and not having to fear for my life while driving at night on the interstate. You see, winter here occasionally brings snow, but the snow usually fades quickly into black ice. Tennessee drivers have a reputation to uphold, one that usually leaves people honking or screaming at us. Naturally, that disposition doesn’t change just because some white stuff is on the ground, ice or not.

So here I sit, waiting impatiently for my final test grade. My calculation was a good outcome, but I’m dying to know if I calculate correctly, because I was super close to the pass/fail line. It won’t be the end of the world if I did fail, except it would be by one point and it’s just plain annoying.

I’m actually not feeling entirely up to par. My sinuses are going crazy because our weather can’t make up its mind. I’ve taken my allergy medicine daily and I’m beginning to think it’s time for a change.

Change is good and we’ve done some great change around here. As previously posted, on of our goals this month is to not spend extra money and to try to pay off another student loan. We’ve done great so far with the spending part, not giving in to going out once in the past eight days. I really wanted to cave last Saturday, but that’s why I have Gray to tell me no, heh. As far as the loan, it’s budgeted to be paid off, but we’re waiting on a paycheck to do so. Maybe by the end of the next week?! It’s so much fun paying off debt. I once told Brooke that it’s easier for me to keep a budget when we have debt because I want the debt paid off so I will make sure all the extra money goes towards paying the bill. So anyways, I’m sure one day when we have a mortgage, I will attack it with a vengeance!

Well, it’s time to go cook, so let me know how your life has been because school makes it hard to keep track of everyone’s blog/twitter/facebook all the time and let’s face it, I never call anyone.

I had just completed the clinical portion (and passed!) but I was failing the class, horribly. After a meeting with the professors who teach that class, I made a decision to withdraw and try again next semester.

This decision was not made lately, I spent several days in agony. I went through the stages of grief, and my poor husband had to put up with me through all the angst and disappointment.

I had a meeting with the professors on Monday and by Friday afternoon I had withdrawn from the class, taking a W. It’s not something I’m proud of, but I feel like I made the absolute best decision for me and my family. This spring I will be taking that class and a physical education class, and I won’t be working. It’s another sad decision, but unfortunately, I can’t work at my job without being a full-time student. Also, I need as much time as possible to study for this evil class and kick its butt.

Other than nursing school, I’m now jobless and enjoying some quality time with my cat and television. :)

I’m both happy and sad, but mostly happy because I’m so tired of school.

I’m not exactly sure of what I’d like to do with nursing. I did want to be an OB nurse, but now I’m not so sure. I think I might like being a nursery nurse, because that’s the clinical I’ve enjoyed the most, so far. Labor and delivery was fine, but I didn’t get to experience as much as I originally would have liked.

I’m just glad that we get to experience many different clinicals, because it may turn out that I really like Pediatrics or maybe Critical Care. I’m glad to get the full experience, and our last semester we get to choose an area we like more, so I’m looking forward to those clinicals.

So, here’s to the end of the semester, may I survive!

While I have a busy two months ahead, I am excited that I won’t be at the hospital three days a week!

I’m not going to lie, it’s been a constant struggle the past week. I do have a big decision to make, and I’m praying, and probably over-thinking, about the decision. I will share the decision once it’s been made, but it does have to do with nursing school. At this time, I just need prayers that I do the right thing for me, and not try to make others happy.

Besides nursing school, did you know it’s almost Halloween?! It truly seems like this semester is flying by and it’s really hard to enjoy my favorite season. The days are getting shorter and the temperature outside is falling. This past week I had to deal with several days of sinus headaches thanks to the sudden drop outside.

Although school is trying to suck me dry, I’ve enjoyed spending some time with friends and family. I’m excited that my parents are driving up today because I would not be able to come see them until Thanksgiving and I haven’t seen them since we moved in August! That’s far too long. With Gray being a full-time employee, although he has plenty of vacation time to have taken off for my fall break, we’re saving it for the Christmas season and next summer. Yes, we might finally get to take a vacation together!

I’m debating whether I will take part in NaBloPoMo this year, simply because I’m not sure if I can justify the time to write a bunch of blogs during the busiest month of the semester, we’ll see I guess.

I’ve been SO busy with school that time has flown by… seriously SO busy.

The thing is, I’ve enjoyed being busy, but it’s been hard. I am currently struggling in my Med-Surg class because I haven’t had time to properly study. I just can’t spend a weekend studying and expect it to be enough, I need to go over the material day after day until it sinks deep in my memory.

So yes, I’ve got a long 2 months ahead of me because my grades have to be very good in that class to pull off a passing grade. However, I will now have some more time to study, so I plan on kicking some butt. I mean, I have no choice.

So while I will enjoy some of my fall break, I will also be spending some time reading and preparing for my OB clinical.

Bring it on, OB.

The truth is: by the time you get to the third semester, you have learned to take one day at a time. I can honestly say I am not overly stressed about this semester. Do I worry about the tests? Of course, but I’m trying my best to study hard and that’s all I can really do. This semester does not leave much time in general, so you have to do your best to manage the time you’re given. For me, this means I’m studying while at work and trying to force myself to crack open the books after clinical days.

I’m not saying this semester has been easy, I’ve had my share of meltdowns. However, it’s not been the dizzying and overwhelming pile of mess I expected. I am almost to the end of my Med-Surg rotation and I honestly have enjoyed the experience. I truly love to help people and I’ve had some wonderful patients. There have been some bad experiences, but for the most part, it’s been wonderful.

This past summer I was dreading Med-Surg clinicals and my cousin kept telling me that I’d change my mind. I just had no idea how right she was/is about this fact. It’s true, I love Med-Surg, although the intensity of this semester is intimidating. I’ve enjoyed Med-Surg so much that I’m starting to wonder if I’ll like my OB rotation.

So as I near my fall break, I have three clinical days and a paper to write, along with two tests and a flu shot clinic. While I don’t super enjoy being so busy, the time has flown by and I’m grateful that in two weeks I will get a small break to snuggle with my cat on the couch and spend some time with my husband. Gray has decided he’s taking me shooting that weekend. ;)

    Let’s see… less than a week until Trina and Kody are MARRIED! I imagine my week is going to fly by, and then it will be Thursday night and I will be an emotional mess because… MY BEST FRIEND IS GETTING MARRIED. AHEM.

    Other than the wedding news (I picked up my bridesmaid dress), this week was full of school. I am beginning to feel more comfortable in the hospital, mostly thanks to my awesome instructor. Seriously, any professor should take note… if your students aren’t doing well, it might be because they are afraid of you.

    I kept the same patient for both days, which was nice because it meant less paperwork. Thankfully, I didn’t have anything on Thursday, which allowed me to catch up on studying for OB and go have lunch with Trina. We did a little window shopping, probably the last time we’ll go shopping before she’s married. Crazy.

    So I’m off to study for this ridiculous test, wish me luck!

I’ve been a slacker this week, but for a very good reason.

    I started back to work last Friday and then on Monday was my first day of third semester. It’s been a long week. Monday we had a lecture for Med-Surg, which is my five-hour lecture class. The material doesn’t seem hard, it’s just having the time to study with everything else going on. All the class build up on each other, so this class is building up on my Health Assessment and Intro classes. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday were all clinical related days. We had two days of learning new skills and then Wednesday was orientation to the Med-Surg clinical, which I have first. Finally, Friday was my first OB(Babies) lecture and the first part of my work hours.

    I’m working five hours on Friday and five on Saturday. I had to cut my hours down because I didn’t want to spend my weekends working because I don’t feel I’m as productive at studying for a variety of reasons. It’s not really fun to stay later on a Friday or get up early on Saturday, but we need the money, so I am just dealing.

    I learned a lot this week, but I am still feeling unprepared for this coming week of actually being in a hospital. I’m sure that uncertainty will ease over time, but hopefully this weekend will give me some time to prepare and review.

    P.S. – I dreamed that I was trying to check out a book from a weird library and was told I couldn’t, but the librarian slipped me the book, and I woke up crying (one minute before my alarm went off). Yes, I have weird dreams… analyze it for me. ;)

    Sigh.

    The apartment is unpacked, and pretty much decorated. I figured I’d do a post with some pictures later this week, hopefully after we get rid of these moving boxes.

    I had everything unpacked within a week of moving, and we’re re-arranged the living room so it’s more open. Bellatrix has been defying my left and right. It’s almost like she wants to get thrown into a tub full of water. She’s been climbing on top of kitchen counters, tables, everything she’s not supposed to, and yet nothing I’ve tried keeps her off, and I’ve tried pretty much everything. The best I can do is keep the kitchen clean and not leave anything breakable where she can easily knock it over.

    We’ve explored the new neighborhood, and I kind of love it up here. I don’t think my mind or body has yet adjusted to the fact that I don’t live in Murfreesboro anymore, but maybe I will feel better after this weekend when we go get our cars tested for new license plate tags. I also need a new library card, so maybe once that happens I will feel more at home.

    A new chapter is starting soon. I know I write that every time, but it’s true. I’m back in school and Gray is working full-time. I have to say moving has been wonderful. Gray know works 7:30am-4:30pm and so we get to spend more time together. Plus, he’ll be able to help me with cooking and the house some. I am so ready to be done with school and working a real, full-time job in nursing. I can’t wait. :)
