Last weigh in for Down and Dirty in 30!

by Becca

Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans

I weighed in at 152 this morning. That’s up 1.6 pounds since two weeks ago. I have been sick the past few days so who knows what is going on with my body.

So I end the challenge having lost 2 pounds, that’s better than nothing! I haven’t measured myself yet so that will be interesting.

This past weekend we were in Memphis and I ran/walked 6 miles at a local park. I was very tired at the end of it but was pretty proud of myself because my first mile was done in 11 minutes, and that was up a small hill! Running outside is much more fun so I think for my longer runs I will head out to our Greenway, much more fun!

School has started back up but I still made it to the gym yesterday and did 3.95 miles on the elliptical machine. I was very tired at the end of that as well, but like I said, I’ve been sick.

I’m working on getting up some recipe posts, including a gluten-free bagel one, thanks to Elizabeth. :)

Down and Dirty: Weigh-In 3

by Becca

Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans

So I haven’t been reporting since this challenge started, but I’m here today!

I weighed-in at 150.4 this morning!! So I’m down 2.2 pounds from last week.

My measurements are (this week/last week):
Waist: 31.25/32
Hips: 39.5/39.25
Thighs: 22.5/22.5
Bust:30/31.25

So I’ve definitely lost some inches this week! I was pretty excited because this shows my hard work is paying off and definitely gives me motivation to keep going. :)

I’ve been training the past few weeks for the Middle Half Marathon and that is all at dailymile.com… I’ll put up a widget on here asap.

When it rains it pours

by Becca

Because that’s just how life seems sometimes.

Basically, we made it to August before having to spend money from savings. Over a week ago we had to fork over a lot of money for health insurance because ours expired at the very end of July. That wasn’t too horrible, but I knew in the back of my mind that this left us very little in our savings and usually that’s just an open door for more money troubles to come our way.

Ahem.

So Saturday morning, the morning of Teresa’s wedding, we are driving to run some errands… We are almost to Wal-mart and the truck starts acting stupid. We end up making it back to campus, where I was going to run, and Gray proceeds to call my brother and his dad. Thirty minutes later I’m halfway through my 4 mile run but decide to quit and we make it home. See, we were supposed to go to Teresa’s wedding Saturday afternoon and we had to make arrangements for Trina to come get us instead of meeting at her apartment. Stupid truck.

On the way to the wedding, Gray is talking to my brother and they work out a deal on a car my brother has. For only $300 he will fix it up for us and get it running. There goes our savings. The next day we wired the money to him and got a friend to take us to Wal-mart where we bought a bike for me.

Monday morning we leave the house at 5:30 on said bikes and ride all the way to campus. I complained the first few minutes about the bike seat and the fact that I was sweating… AT 5:30 IN THE MORNING. When we got to school, I mapped the route out on dailymile.com and yes… 2 miles and some change… crazy. I can see how it’s a good workout and better for us, but it’s just so humid and hot outside that it’s torture!

We rode our bikes to work for the entire week and I must say, it ended up being alright. I did trade with Gray and used his bike until Thursday when we got me a new bike seat. However, that was rather rough and we ended up returning my bike and got another one, similar to what Gray already had. I rode it on Friday and was well pleased, haha.

We do have the car and it works, but has the “check engine” light on… and that is a whole spew of problems in itself. We’re taking it in tomorrow to be looked at because the tags expire in September and apparently the car will automatically fail the emissions test if the light is on, regardless of whether or not it’s an actual emissions problem… great, I know. The car itself is not worth putting a lot of work into it so I imagine that if it’s too much money we might just sell it back to my brother because he can use it back home without passing an emissions test. ugh I hate grown up problems.

We’re actually starting to shop around for another car because that was what the plan was for this fall, get me a car so that I can drive to clinicals in the spring.

So yeah, a lot is going on and to top it all off I have a dentist appointment on Tuesday that I might have to cancel. My eye twitch has returned, I’m pretty sure it is stress related and so I need to work on getting rid of all this stress in a better way.

Down and Dirty in 30: Week 1

by Becca

Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans

So, Sunday I started off the new Sisterhood challenge at 154 pounds, my heaviest weight yet.

Today I am at 152.8, so down 1.2 pounds!

I am currently training for a half marathon so Monday I shredded for weight training and yesterday I ran/walked for 40 minutes. Today is a rest day or cross training, but due to my schedule I will probably be resting.

So yeah, I am doing all of this and trying to eat healthy portions as well.

Comcast, AT&T, and headbands.

by Becca

So we don’t have cable/internet currently. Yesterday Gray and I decided to call Comcast about cutting off our cable and he asked what our options were to keep the internet with them. It would be over $60 starting in September to keep cable internet and I told him it was too much. AT&T currently has a deal for 12 months to pay around $35 and then it will go up to $50 at the end of a year. Yes, they only offer DSL, but we were hoping to switch to the AT&T U-verse cable when it became available to our area of town.

Well, after canceling with Comcast (which we loved, just not their prices), we headed over to AT&T to sign up for their DSL. After what seemed like forever it was discovered that the wiring of our apartment building needed upgrading and so it will be a week, maybe longer before it will be offiicially hooked up for us. This means not internet at home until then. I think this is a good thing for us because so often the internet gets in the way of us spending time together. Gray and I are both constantly connected and now he’ll only be able to check his e-mail via the iPhone and I will be reading more. I even pulled out the Wii Fit yesterday and used it! Granted, I used it a few days ago because I bought myself the new Wii Fit Plus disc and now I’m addicted to juggling, seriously.

Anyway, I think it will be a nice break for us and I’m hoping to get a lot done at home, mainly reading the huge stack of books that I’ve been meaning to! I finished “The Memory Keeper’s Daughter” yesterday and now I’m working on “Anne of Ingleside” and “Twilight,” for the second time. Yes, Twilight again, because I’m reading through the series again. heh

In other news, I’m going shopping with Trina this afternoon and I’m already making a list in my head of things to buy. For one: new nail polish but the old bottle is seriously almost dry. Two: some new Old Navy camis. I have a coupon to get five for $2 each, today through Sunday and yes, I am getting all five, different colors. I hope they are well stocked! It’s been nice to think about finally indulging myself, like I talked about yesterday with the nail salon coupon. I’m very picky how I spend the money, but I’ve noticed it’s been more on girlie items like a new purse, headband, and of course, the nail salon services. I guess when I have money, I choose to be pampered!

On a side note: I’m going to dust off the review blog soon for some books I’m reading, but I might also post a few movie reviews. I just saw “Percy Jackson…” and it was pretty good! Watching “The Visitor” right now and enjoying it as well.

Shrinking Days of Summer: Week 4

by Becca

I run with the Sisterhood

So, this week I lost .6 of a pound, which was a miracle! I’m at 148.2 curently.

Chest: stayed the same
Waist: + .2 inch
Thigh: -.2 inch
Hips: +.2 inch

I started training for a 10k, which the intention of going into training for a half marathon right after. So far I can do 2 miles in under 30 minutes. I haven’t gone beyond that because my shin are hurting, meaning I probably need new shoes and well, that’s just not an option right now, but soon. I have another pair that are identical to what I’ve been using and so I’m going to switch for a while and see if it helps until we can afford new ones.

So I ran 2 miles yesterday, 2 miles on Sunday, 2.4 last Thursday… and 1.45 last Wednesday… a total of 7.85 miles run this past week. I haven’t cycled this week because we’re trying out swimming as our cross training. We might switch it out every other week, but right now it’s so hot that swimming is the only option we want to try.

This weekend starts a vacation in the Smokies so we’ll be doing a lot of hiking and fun activities. My training will halt because I’m NOT running outside in this heat, yeck! See you all next week, hopefully vacation will be kind to me!

Shrinking Days of Summer: Week 3

by Becca

I run with the Sisterhood

*sigh*

I gained 2.6 pounds this week but I’m pretty sure it’s either water weight of muscle. Let’s look at the measurements.

Waist: -.2 inch
Hips: -1.2 inches
Thigh: Stayed the same
Chest: -.5 inch

So basically, I lost in all but thigh this week. That tells me it might be muscle, but it might also be water weight from pigging out a little yesterday, ahem.

I completed last week’s challenge and did 13.14 miles of exercise last week, woohoo!

So, this week’s goal is to actually count points, because I’ve been slacking in that area, however, I have been trying to eat portions (if it’s boxed food) rather than just scooping out what I want.

Shrinking Days of Summer: Week 2

by Becca

I run with the Sisterhood

This week I weigh in at 146.2, down 1.6 pounds from 147.8, WOOT!

Measurements (negative means lost, otherwise it is a gain):
Waist: -1.5 inches
Hips: .5 inch
Thighs: -.5 inch
Bust: -.5 inch

So overall, I lost about two pounds and came down some on my measurements. This makes me REALLY happy and proud of myself. It also encourages me to keep going.

As far as the water challenge, I think I pretty much failed at it, but I tried. This week’s challenge is to do 13.1 miles in whatever way you can.

So far last week I did:
Elliptical: none, what a slacker!
Jog:1.29 miles
Cycle: 3.57 miles!

The cycle/jog is actually a part of this week’s challenge so I’ve done 4.86/13.1 miles already!

My goal for the next week is to keep better count of what I am eating, drink more water, and run some more. So far, so good!

Shrinking Days of Summer: Week 1

by Becca

I run with the Sisterhood

Time for an update. This week I stayed the same at 147.8. I had some ups and downs, but I’m ok with staying the same because it’s better than gaining.

I have not measured myself, might update this later today. The long weekend (with a closed gym) messed with my stats but here are my workout stats for this past week:
Thursday: 2.86 mi on elliptical for 35 minutes
Tuesday: 2.75 mi on elliptical for 35 minutes

As you can probably tell yesterday’s workout was not as good, but that’s because of the long break. I think I overworked yesterday as well, but only time will tell, I guess.

The challenge for this week is to drink 64 ounces (at least!) a week and I’ve tried to do that, but have not been so successful. I have an app that tracks the glasses of water I drink, I just need to remember to use it!

Feel free to share any weight loss/exercise tips or kick my butt into action. :)

Shrinking Days of Summer: Beginning

by Becca

I run with the Sisterhood

I am weighing in at 147.8, down 2.2 pounds from last week 150. Woot! The weight loss gave WW online the chance to take away a point so now I only get 21 daily.

My measurements are as follows:
Waist: 33.5
Hips: 40
Thigh: 23
Chest: 31

I am also training currently, trying to run a lot. Gray and I are visiting the gym as much as possible, today we are going to lift weights and maybe cycle or use the elliptical machine. Every other day we are going to be jogging.

So here is to week two on Weight Watchers!
