5k: Dunkin Donuts Run and Walk

Today was the big day! I started training for a 5k this past summer but as soon as my program ended, I didn’t have a 5k to run. Well, when the Sisterhood said the challenge for this month was to run one, I knew I had no excuse!

I partnered up with EA Sports Active to be a Community Leader for Nashville. They sent me a t-shirt and said good luck!

I finished the race in 40:15. I was actually doing GREAT and running 11 minute miles but then I hit mile number three. I actually had to walk a few minutes, which is why my time is much later than I thought it would be. The race had some hills that I wasn’t expecting and hadn’t trained for, but I did finish!

This race was awesome because they had lots of celebrities and free food! We had dunkin donuts hot chocolate and a donut before the race and afterwards Applebees provided lunch, Baskin Robbins did ice cream, and a local restaurant gave free samples of their food.

The celebs! I got to meet Taj George of Survivor fame who is married to one of my favorite Tennessee Titans, Eddie George! Girlfriend looked FABULOUS! I also took my picture with a lot of the Star Wars gang and T-Rac (Titans mascot!). We had performances by PureNRG, Madison Cain, an appearance by Luke Benward.

Overall, the experience was so great. I ran Cross Country in high school, but I sucked so it was so nice to run an official race again, but be WAY better.

Time to weigh in… and an accouncement

First off, if you previously subscribed via rss feed, we moved the blog around and now the rss feed is new and different, so please re-subscribe!

Time to weigh in. I weighed in at 144.6 this morning which means I gained back the .8 lbs I lost last week. I’m pretty sure it’s water weight because I had chips last night. I know, I know.

I also took my measurements. I stayed the same in all areas except the chest area. I lost 1/2 inch there, so yay!

Today will be my last “run” before Saturday, the day my 5k is in Nashville! I’m pretty excited about the 5k and I hope I do my best.

Weighing In

143.8 is my weight this week. I lost .8 pounds! This is pretty awesome considering yesterday in pilates was arm work, surprisingly I am not dying for it either. I used 3 pound weights during the exercises and almost cried from the pain, so I’ll probably feel it tomorrow.

I haven’t run in a week, maybe two, and although I plan to run tomorrow, this is not good for my endurance system. I wonder how my 5k will be in less than two weeks, eek!

School has given me a break this week and I’ve been enjoying the time to get back on top of things. This weekend will be busy so I’m trying to get ahead before the weekend gets here.

I will take my measurements later. Last week, even though I gained some pounds back, I had lost inches in several places!

Finally the Fall

I can’t believe it is October already. I seem to be stubborn in the fact that it is quickly becoming too cold to wear my croc sandals anymore. Me stubborn? hah.

Today Gray and I have been married for one year and five months. It is hard to believe that next month will be a year and a half. Where is the time going?! The second year has already been better than the first year, a pattern I can only hope continues in the future. We’ve got several activities going on this month already. This weekend we will be on the A-Team at church, which helps to set everything up and then takes it down after the service. Next weekend is fall break so we’re going to McEwen for a few days and then to Memphis for a few days. I’m looking forward to the visits. The weekend after that includes a Halloween costume party and the weekend after that is Halloween!

I am actually going to do a few project this weekend, including carving my pumpkin (hopefully) and something deco-rational for our party. If it turns out well, I’ll post pictures.

I took Gray with me to the Rec. Center yesterday. I asked him if he would go running with me and then the rain started so we opted to go inside. He ended up just walking around the track, and I ran about 2.62 miles. I finally mapped out how many laps is 3.1 (5k) miles so I can train in there if I want to. I got the nike+ ipod gadget this past week and it’s great! Of course, I have to calibrate it to the right amount of distance, but it is still useful. THe only thing left for my running gear is a heart-rate monitoring watch. I have one that I want to get and it’s only $50-60.. maybe for Christmas?

Oh! We made a beef stew last night in the crock pot and it was amazing. It came from my S&D magazine so I’ll try to post the recipe the next time I make it… I do believe it will become a staple!

So you gained

Well, I gained a pound this week and honestly? That’s pretty much what I expected. After I lost almost three pounds last week, I went into sudden craving mode. I had chips and dip twice this past week. As in, two different containers or both chips and dip! Yeah and I’m pretty sure I had a hot fudge cake sundae from Sonic as well. So to only gain a pound? Pretty much a miracle.

I am currently at 143.8 and this week I’d love to get below 142 because that seems to be where I get stuck in this weight-loss journey.

I have not measured myself in a week, hopefully I will remember to do this tonight .

Today is my rest day from training and I’m very glad for it! I will be doing a mix of a custom workout from runnersworld.com and the ea active 5k workout. So that means I’m counting my pilates class as my cross training on Tuesdays because today I realized I can’t overdo it. Today in pilates class we did a lot of leg work and we always do stomach exercises so I gave it a rest out of sheer exhaustion. I will continue cross training with EA on Fridays, I believe.

Training for a 5k

SO, today I decided to start training for a 5k. I’m planning on running in the Dunkin’ Donuts 5k November 8th, so that leaves me with about 5 weeks to train, yikes! Luckily, I’ve done the Couch to 5k program before and I’m a bit more advanced than others just starting out.

Things I noticed while running today:

  • My shins no longer hurt! This is a HUGE sign to me that I’m running correctly.
  • I was able to run for about fifteen minutes before feeling sluggish. I decided to stop after 17.5 minutes because I don’t want to overwork myself when I haven’t run that much in like two months!

I must admit that I came home and ate some chips and dip. Sigh, no one is perfect, right?
Tomorrow I will cross train using the EA Sports active exercises and then Wednesday I will take a break, hooray!

The great thing about running is that it totally relieves all your stress, which is AMAZING.
