Friday Five: Lessons

We’re heading to Memphis today to watch my youngest brother-in-law graduate on Sunday. I’m pretty excited because we’re getting out of Murfreesboro. I have a post I’m working on, but this should tide you over.

Friday Five: Lessons

  1. What kind of out-of-school lessons did you take as a kid? Well, I took dance lessons for several years: ballet, tap, and jazz. I also did voice lessons in high school because I was auditioning for college music schools.
  2. What valuable lesson did you learn this past week? God provides what we need when we need it.
  3. Who in your life really needs to be taught a lesson?  I really can’t judge other people. I would say that those not leaning on God need to learn they can’t do it by their self.
  4. What kinds of lessons would you love to have a private teacher for right now? Hmm Anatomy and Physiology!
  5. What steps have you taken to lessen the impact of these rough economic times? Our budget has always been tight, but it’s more tight than ever before. We’re sticking more money in savings, watching our spending, and making sure not to waste food.

I hope everyone has a great memorial weekend!

I promise I'm not a thief.

Yay for Friday! Gray and I have been busy doing a little bit of early Christmas shopping. If you shop early enough, you get great deals! So here’s to another Friday5.
  1. When did you last use the edge of a coin (or a knife blade) as a screwdriver? Probably on my laptop, but it’s been quite a while.
  2. When did you last use a wire coat-hanger to break into a car? Never. We actually own Slimjim, because Gray got locked out of his truck so often.
  3. When did you last use food or drink as medication? Um, never?
  4. When did you last use your cellular telephone as a flashlight? A few days ago.
  5. When did you last use a paper clip for any purpose other than to clip paper? Um, never?

Stuck in the middle with you

It’s Friday! I just love the weekends, don’t you? We have no major plans for the weekend, other than grocery shopping and of course, I’m doing the two Nas. So, Friday5 it is!

  1. What usually marks the middle of your day? Lunch, sometimes with Gray!
  2. From whom (or to whom) was your most recent middle-of-the-night phone call? I never get middle of the night calls, but on our honeymoon, we got one at like 4a.m. and it really confused me. It turned out a guy had smelled pot, wanted to buy some, and could have sworn it was our room that had it. He got the room numbers switched up. I thought someone was trying to pick a fight with us, it was scary!
  3. On what social, political, economic, or moral issue are you in the middle of the road? Well, when it comes to politics, I’m usually between the Republican and Democratic sides. I agree with different issues on both sides and disagree as well. I’d rather not say what ones because I really don’t want any hate email.
  4. How likely are you to give someone your middle finger? Very unlikely. If I do, I must be extremely  eangry.
  5. When were you last caught in the middle of a disagreement that really had nothing to do with you? Hmm nothing to do with me? I am not sure I’ve been in such a thing. I’m usually involved in some way. I promise I don’t try to make drama, it follows me.
Have a great weekend!

Where oh where?

It’s Friday and we all know what that means, right? Friday5

  1. Where’s your favorite beach? I really loved the beaches in the Bahamas, so clear and beautiful. However, I am partial to a particular beach, Clearwater Beach, Florida. I lived there for a summer in college and it was the most amazing summer of my LIFE!
  2. Where’s your favorite place to spend money? Well, I think Gray and I both agree that we’d love to spend money at Apple.com, but we usually spend most of our money at Kroger or Walmart.
  3. Where’s a good place to watch people? Anywhere, but I do it from my apartment sometimes… or the store.
  4. Where’s a good place to be totally alone? Home… only one other person lives here and he’s gone most of the time. :)
  5. Where’s a place outside of work (or school) where you’re likely to run into people from work (or school)? Wal-mart… or Kroger, but mostly Wal-mart.
So, tonight is the Haunted House!! At least, if it stops raining anytime soon….

Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!

Friday 5, because I’m still recovering from being sick!

  1. Who frightens you? Hmm I’m not really afraid of people, unless they threaten me.
  2. Who regularly surprises you? I’d say my mom, I’m never sure how she will react to something.
  3. Who calms you down? Gray, he has the wonderful ability to calm me in pretty much any type of situation.
  4. Who inspires you? I guess my mom. She’s been able to raise a family, have a career she loves, and do it all frugally in tough times.
  5. Who admires you perhaps more than he or she should? I have no idea. I don’t really consider myself to be much of a role model.
Gray and I don’t have much planned for the weekend, except sleeping and eating. We’re quite simple most of the time.

How about them chicken thighs?

Today’s post is another Friday5 because we’re actually busy around here. We’re packing up to spend a few days in Memphis and a few in McEwen. I’m taking my camera so maybe we’ll post something interesting from the trip. Maybe tomorrow I’ll tell you about how my alma mater college was shutdown because of terrorism threats. Maybe.
  1. “My hands are tied” is an English-language cliche that means “I’d like to do something about this unfortunate situation, but I don’t have the ability or authority.” In what current situation do you feel your hands are tied? I think just about everyone feels that way about the economic crisis going on. We have a government, but truthfully, we can’t change anything easily in our government. I feel like a decision I am totally against got passed by people I don’t totally trust. Ah well, that’s life.
  2. Railroad ties are the evenly-spaced slats that lie perpendicular to train tracks and whose function is to hold the tracks in place and to distribute the weight of the train. Who are the railroad ties in your life? I’d say my family and friends. They keep me down to earth when I want to fly off the tracks.
  3. What are your feelings about Thai food? I think I had it once, it didn’t impress me.
  4. Whose thighs do you admire? Uhm… chickens? I really like chicken thighs. Human thighs I could care less about.
  5. red tide is a proliferation (in ideal circumstances) of oceanic algae that often seem to discolor seawater and threaten other sealife. If the ocean is your life and the algae the harmful attitudes, thoughts, or moods that crowd out the good stuff, under what conditions in your life is red tide most likely to become a problem? Ironically, I’ve gotten sick from the real ‘red tide’ before in Florida. I would say the red tide in my life is when I don’t trust in God and think I can do things myself.

Don't ever get your haircut at Wal-mart..

It is Friday again and that means it is time for the friday5! This weekend I will be working on the blog some, yay!
  1. When did someone last break something of yours? Hmm Well, the chinchilla bit into my power cord, but he didn’t cause it to stop working… other than that, I don’t remember
  2. When did you last play hackysack, if ever? haha years ago, if I ever did
  3. What was your most dramatic haircut like? Well, most recently was right before our wedding. I just wanted a trim of the split ends and after the wedding I was planning on cutting my hair BIG time. So I went to Wal-mart (big mistake) and had them cut it. The little old lady didn’t know how to give me layers and cut a huge chunk of my hair off. Yeah, I was very unhappy, but I couldn’t do anything about it… So, NEVER get your haircut at Wal-mart… just don’t.
  4. Hacking is basically breaking through the security that protects a computer or a website. What’s the closest you’ve come to doing something similar in real life? Hmm, I’ve hacked email before, but only of my family’s.
  5. In the world of stand-up comedy, a hack is a comic who steals jokes from other comics. Have you ever known a hack in your own field? Well, I have a journalism degree and I like to do web design. Both fields can be known for plagiarism. If that answers the question…

Because there isn't anything else to say..

It’s time for Friday Five again, which is great because I’ve been a total blogging slacker this week.
  • 1. What’s the cutest of the small, furry animals? I was always partial to koala bears, but now I own a chinchilla.
  • Exhausted Chinchilla
  • I totally think he’s the cutest thing ever.
  • 2. What predator impresses you the most? Hmm possibly the lion? They are king of the jungle afterall.
  • 3. After which animal will you name your professional sports team? haha hmm Maybe the Cougars… I just like the sound of it.
  • 4. What’s an unusual animal that you know a little something about? Well, again, I know more about my chinchilla, because I own one. They are nocturnal, can jump like crazy because they have kangaroo like legs, and he takes dust baths and never smells. It’s kinda awesome.
  • 5. Your high school probably had some kind of mascot or symbol, but based on your memories of it, what animal should REALLY have been the emblem? Well, we were the Warriors, so we had a, well, WARRIOR as our mascot. I’m pretty sure a warrior’s head was our mascot… so I really can’t argue with that.

Yay for the weekend! I’ll post soon, very soon, I promise!

Friday Five

So, back in the day when I used to be really hip and cool when it came to webdesign and all that jazz, I used to participate in the Friday Five. Well, thanks to Jayesel, I found it again. Since I’m feeling lazy today, I’m going to post my answers instead of a real post.

  1. Who lets you have your way more than you should? Definitely Gray, he puts up with a lot from me but usually lets me have my way.
  2. According to the cliche, the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, but what’s the way to yours? Hmm Chocolate, doing the chores and cooking me a good dinner :)
  3. What’s something that should have been put away but hasn’t been? hmm I guess the clean dishes sitting in the dishwasher
  4. When did you last weigh yourself? Yesterday, I haven’t lost or gained since I started exercising more…
  5. What do the cops in the donut shop say? :D  haha Ay oh whey oh, ay oh whey oh
