One and a half years

A year and a half ago I became Mrs. Sanborn. Time has really flown! It’s hard to believe that we first liked each other four years ago this month.

A year and a half ago I became Mrs. Sanborn. Time has really flown! It’s hard to believe that we first liked each other four years ago this month.
Well, seeing as today is the one-year anniversary of my wedding, I think I’ll let you readers in on what happened on the big day from my eyes. Here goes nothing..
1. Night before:
Let’s see, the night before, there was, of course, the rehearsal & rehearsal dinner, which were fun, nothing out of the ordinary happened, so far so good. Learned that the candles are a pain in the arse to light correctly, made a mental note of it.
After the rehearsal dinner, went back to the hotel & watched The Godfather with the guys (I’d never seen it until then).
2. Before the Wedding:
Got up & everyone packed up & ready. First stop was Becca’s parents’ place, got dressed & snacked a little. Next stop was the photo op at a family friend’s house. After the photos we went to the church to get ready & wait.
3. The Wedding itself:
Music starts; the men file out behind Britt (the officiant & MTSU Cru director). Mothers & grandparents are seated. Music changes; Becca is led out by her father, she’s been crying (happy tears). Britt starts talking about marriage, I don’t remember a word. Next up, the vows. Britt starts the vows (I mouth “after me, after me, after me”), vows continue (I mouth “after me, after me, after me” again). We then say our “I do”s. Time to light the candles; we both light the middle one, it goes out, repeat. I ask everyone, “Anyone got a lighter?” Everyone laughs. It stays lit after the third try. We walk out & then greet everyone on the outer steps; I meet more of her family (there’s a lot of them). The guests then go into the room where the reception is held, and the wedding party has a few pictures taken.
4. After the Wedding:
Becca and I go into the reception hall & have our first dance as man & wife. I keep leading her backwards and she keeps stepping on her dress. We’re both nervous, but everyone thinks we danced well & we’re cute. We eat, make the rounds greeting everyone once more. Becca and I go get changed to leave. We come out & the truck has been saran wrapped & decorated. There’s balloons & phone books inside the cab (inside joke between my old roommates). I clean out the cab & start the truck; the horn starts with the engine, and Vernon (brother-in-law) cuts the wire causing it. We finally get on our way; 1/2 mile down the road I’m hearing something behind the truck & we pull into a grocery parking lot. There’s (now) empty bottles tied to the trailer hitch. I cut them off & toss them into the bed of the truck. We drive off to Nashville to our hotel.
tl;dr: I got married to the most awesome woman ever. She’s a smart, funny, modest, Godly woman with a great body and I love her bunches.
tl;dr2: Most awesome day ever.
I know, I’ve been such a slacker at posting, or at least posting interesting blogs!
Gray and I have been adjusting to being back in our apartment and doing a lot of cleaning and organizing.
I cleaned out the bookshelves (we have three) and then today we tacked our living room closet. It is so much easier to take the vacuum out now!
We even went to Wal-mart last night and ordered some wedding pictures to go in frames we got as wedding presents. Yes, we’ve been married for over 5 months and I’m just now ordering wedding pictures.
I actually have a great idea for a wedding photo album but it will take time and money to complete it.
We also bought a pumpkin to carve for Halloween. Last year, I bought a pumpkin, carved it, set it out on the balcony and promptly forgot about it until it rotted. This year we’re planning to try a stencil on our pumpkin. I will definitely be photographing that process for you guys.
Right now Gray is currently going through a process to interview for a co-op/internship. We’re hoping for a co-op and he has an interview, so we’ll let everyone know how that process goes.
I can’t believe that Halloween is almost here. Next will be Thanksgiving and then Christmas!
So we’re 5 days away from being married and still can not believe it! This weekend I had my bachelorette party while Gray watched Iron Man with a bunch of guys. My party was so much fun. The roomies and Dera went to see Made of Honor and then we drove to downtown Nashville and ate at the Old Spaghetti Factory. After that was a trip to Hustler’s, a rather risque shop. I had a blast and I’m very prepared for the honeymoon now.
Tomorrow we are have a counseling session with our officiant about sex, it should be interesting. We also need to set up our Renter’s insurance. Wednesday we’ll be packing and Thursday we’re driving to McEwen. I hope the week flies by because I so need a vacation and the Bahamas are calling my name.
So yeah 9 days left to go! I’ve got to print off wedding programs, print off timelines for everyone, print off address labels with our new address and everything… and a bagillion other things.
Gray is happy because he is done with finals and only has one day of work left before the wedding. He’s extremely excited about that. We’ve busy packing me up and packing for the honeymoon as well. It’s crazy to me that I have less than week in Murfreesboro as a single gal!
So over the weekend, I apparently picked up sickness or as I like to call it, hay fever. It all began with a sore throat that progressed to sneezing, stopped up nose, a slight fever and now a runny nose. Luckily, it’s happening during finals week for Gray, which means I’m not missing out on much anyway.
We actually have me mostly moved into the apartment and now I’m working on finalizing the wedding programs and timelines for the big day. This weekend is graduation and my bachelorette party and then it’ll be down to single digits for the wedding countdown! We’re both extremely excited and sooooo ready to be married!
So this past week has been a blur. We got the apartment, moved Gray in and left for McEwen to get our marriage license and furniture. Somewhere in this midst of all that, I caught a sinus cold. Now I’m just trying to not get freaked out about how close the wedding is!
Finals are this week for Gray and after that we’ll be quite busy moving me. It’s going to be a busy 12 days.
So Wednesday we were packing Gray’s room to get ready for the Thursday room. I told Gray he should call Gateway and see when they open their office. When he called they said we could come get our keys and sign our lease today. So, naturally, we did.
Yesterday was when we had to move Gray out of the apartment. He had to be out by today so that they could get his room ready for the next guy, Tim, who is taking over his lease this summer. We managed to have him moved out by 5:00 p.m.
This weekend we’re going to be parent’s house for a night to get the remaining furniture needed. They are giving us my old bookshelf and a chest and possibly more! Last night Gray and I purchased a computer desk/bookshelf combo so our apartment is coming right along. We’ll probably get a couch from Craig’s List or Goodwill, whatever is cheaper at the time.
We’re going home this weekend for another reason, to obtain our marriage license. It was one of the only times we could go, and I’d rather have it done than wait until the very last minute. We’re both excited and can’t believe that the wedding is in only 2 weeks!
Gray and I had a wonderful time in Memphis this past weekend. Friday night we got to see the newest Jackie Chan movie with his family and Saturday we both got haircuts before going to our wedding shower. It was themed in Mexican and had GREAT food!
We were, once again, showered with gifts and enjoyed every minute of it. Our china pattern is almost complete, we have just about everything we need for our new apartment and we have several generous couples that are praying for us. We are definitely blessed.
I had a job “recruitment” interview today with Veterans Affairs and in a couple of weeks I will begin the application process for that. Until then Gray and I will both be very busy. He finishes classes tomorrow and finals are next week. Thursday we’re moving him into our new apartment and boy am I excited about that!
It’s hard to believe that in 2 1/2 weeks we’ll be married!
I truly can’t hold back my sadness that today is my third and final bridal shower. I’ve enjoyed my showers, it was fun to see family and friends I haven’t seen in a while. Yes, I can’t believe that the wedding is 3 weeks away and I am definitely excited about that as well. I just will miss these parties where it’s all about Gray and I as a couple and starting our lives together.
Tonight’s shower is a couples shower, meaning that couples from Memphis and surrounding areas will gather together to come celebrate with us. They will mostly be from Gray’s side with a special appearance by my parents! It’s been two weeks since I’ve seen them and although that isn’t long, when you’re getting married you realize you will hardly see your parents as consistently as you did as a single person. So I’m more than happy that they’re making the drive to Memphis. Actually, I am pretty shocked, but excited.
After this weekend I will be going back to Murfreesboro to pack up Gray’s room and my room for the apartment! I do have an interview on Tuesday but other than that, my week is filled with errands. I need a haircut, gotta get bridesmaid dresses fitted. It’s all crazy.
Next weekend we’re moving all the furniture we’ve collected to the apartment from my parent’s garage. We’ve put our bedroom suite together and now all we are really lacking is the living room furniture, but that’s not needed until after the wedding, realistically.
I may post about the shower tonight or tomorrow… depending on when I can. Gray and I are very excited about what is to come.
