LOST: The Finale

by Becca

** I’m going to go ahead and tell you not to read this if you don’t want to read spoilers for the entire series of LOST. **

So, last night was an epic moment in television. I haven’t watched the Jimmy Kimmel show yet, but I wanted to talk about the show, how I feel about the finale, and questions I still have.

There were some things I had figured out from the beginning… like I figured out the Christian Shepard name deal. I’m actually quite surprised that people missed that, but then again, I spent a lot of time in biblical theories so the name wasn’t surprising to me, as wasn’t David Shepard.

I knew that Desmond was the key to disabling the island, but I honestly wasn’t expecting the ending. I truly thought they would all meet up and somehow be a key to going back to the present day island and stopping Smokey.

That being said, the ending was perfect for what it was meant to be, however, I am still left with many questions. I wanted more closure about the island and a lot of the mysteries. The after-life deal is great and did provide some closure and happiness about the characters, but I just want more closure about the other mysteries.

My theory wasn’t quite off the wall, Desmond did his thing and the alternate reality was not truly an alternate reality. I never thought they were dead, but I did notice they were all happy, yet missing something. It wasn’t until the meet-up that they were all ready to move on because the missing pieces were back in their “lives.”

I still want to know more about the island, including what happened with Hurley and Ben after Jack died, but I think that the LOST people will probably put some extra on that nice boxed DVD set and I can’t wait for August! I wish we would have been told more about the history of the island, but it wasn’t the main purpose of the show.

I think it’s truly hard to be satisfied with the endings of these kind of shows, especially when you’ve built up theories for so long. Last year’s ending of Harper’s Island left questions with me and the director was kind enough to answer a lot of them on twitter, maybe the writers of LOST will do the same?

All I know is that answers or not, this was one of the best written television shows I’ve ever seen and if you haven’t watched it, you really should because I think we all need something like this in our lives.

I will be spending the next week reading forums to help me better understand some parts of the finale and then it’s time to move on, which oddly enough feels right.

LOST: Before the Finale

by Becca

As I sit here, just a few short hours away from the finale, a lot is going through my mind. I’m not sure exactly how I first heard of LOST, I think it was back in 2006 when Gray mentioned a lottery ticket with the LOST numbers as a good Christmas present for his brothers. Back then, I didn’t watch, mainly because I knew I needed to play catch up and had no time to do so. I watched a few episodes in 2007 when I lived at Gables with the girls, but I was really confused.

So last summer (2009), I sat down with Netflix for three weeks and watched the first five seasons all at once. I was so hooked and couldn’t believe I had to wait for a few months to view the last season. Time passed by super fast and then along came February and season six. Today is the end of Lost and I feel like I’m on the edge of something great.

It’s always depressing when something ends, but in this case, I think it’s going to be the end of a great story. A story I want to own on DVD as a set. :)

Questions I want answered:
1. Who is Jack’s ex-wife in the alternate reality.
2. Will Kate end up with Jack or Sawyer?
3. Whatever happened to Walt?
4. Will something happened in the alternate reality to stop Smokey in the real one?
(may add more to list as day goes on and I remember them)

TV Addictions and the such

by Becca

We’re back home and quite tired. The week at home was fun but exhausting as well. We had company over every night. This led to a very tired Becca by the end of the week. In fact, the normally social butterfly personality in my body left Thursday night.

I love my family, but sometimes I want some peace and quiet!

The worst part about coming home was finding out a package I had ordered was sent to the post office because no one was here to receive it. This means that I won’t be able to get it until Monday, which is quickly being piled with stuff to do… go to the library and pick up The Time Traveler’s Wife, go pick up package, go do this and that I can’t remember it all!

I’ve been watching Lost for two weeks now. I’m almost finished with season two and I must say, it’s addicting. However, I stand by my first idea: if you don’t watch it from beginning to end you will get bored and confused coming in halfway.

Chile survived the week at home and seemed happy to see us. Apparently he is just grumpy like me and needs time to himself sometimes.

We go back to school in a little over a week. I am not ready. The summer was way too short.

Is it Christmas break yet?

Who knew I had all of this on my mind?

by Becca

I know.

I fell off the face of the earth.

Weigh-in blog entries are not that entertaining.

Well, in two weeks I will be done with school.

However, three weeks after that I will be back in school.

I know, I just might die in June, but I kind of hope not because in July I turn 24!

I made an A in my lab part of Anatomy and Physiology! I will be taking part two in June.

Hence, why I just might die.

Gray is still job hunting and we’re hoping he finds something pretty soon. He is doing pretty well in his classes from what he tells me. I mean, who else takes Physics and makes A’s in it? Seriously.

On Friday I begin my final training for the lab. I chose to go to these seminars: Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Networking.

Have I mentioned that I love my job?

I’m having a pretty good week so far. I proved to myself that I can study and make good grades. I’m hoping this pays off for Nursing school.

I’ve lost over an inch off my waist in a week, I love you Jillian Michaels!

I also sprained my calf muscle this week, but it hasn’t slowed me down too much.

Oh and I’m excited about television tonight, three new episodes of Survior, Grey’s Anatomy and Harper’s Island!

Did I mention that I am very into Harper’s Island? It’s one of the few shows Gray actually watches with me, which is good because I’ve gotten scared a few times.

We recently implemented a “no computer time” from dinner time until 9. It’s been working so far.

Oh, and lastly, I did not get one single bite of Easter candy. It wasn’t because I was strong, it’s because I totally forgot about it until there wasn’t any cadbury eggs left. I am still heartbroken.

I really want to go somewhere on vacation at the end of August, before school starts. However, there is the whole money issue. I’m hoping to save up over the next few months because I need to spread these wings!

Weekend Review

by Becca

I’m currently sitting at work (I picked up some extra hours), working on ChaCha (my online job that I do every so often).

So I’m making money in two different way at the same time!

Yeah, I’m a little weird.

This weekend has gone by so fast, probably because Gray and I have both worked and that sucks away our time together. Saturday I had the opportunity to go with my sister and parents to look for wedding gowns for my sister. She got engaged about a week ago. After dress shopping we went out to eat at my favorite new joint, Five Guys Burgers and Fries, delish. Later that night I got to hang with Trina for a little while for some much needed girl time.

This morning at church was a good reminder of setting your priorities straight. I tend to push things like God and my marriage aside because I know they will be there. It’s very hard, but I try my best to make God and Gray a priority in my life. Not so easy when you try, but well worth it.

Did I mention I signed up to teach 3 year olds at church? I start next Sunday and I’m beginning to wonder what I’ve gotten myself into, I guess we’ll find out.

Tonight are the Oscars and I will probably be watching them. It’s amazing how we only have ten channels, but can always find something to watch. I’m certainly glad I am not addicted to television, but it’s a nice time to relax.

Tonight we went to Wal-mart to grab a few items and so I could do my sociology homework. I had to find 5 boy toys and 5 girl toys and document them in a paper. I realized that we pay so much more for girl toys and they are all related to “housewife” activities… cooking toys, baby dolls, and dress up. Boys, on the other hand, play with trucks, spy toys, and random anime cards. It’s amazing how different the two groups are marketed at.

On my last random note, we bought sourdough bread tonight to make croutons with Pioneer Woman style… yummy!

Jack Bauer doesn't sleep

by Becca

My newest addiction

So this past weekend the new season of 24 premiered. It is a show that I’ve wanted to watch from beginning to end for a while so I decided to start yesterday.

Wow, that show is ADDICTING! I’ve already watched three episodes and I’m hooked.

Other than 24, it’s been a busy last week or so. We’ve preparing for the start of school and work, something I’m rather nervous about. I can’t believe that in two days I’ll be back in a classroom, CRAZY!

Oh and as far as the weight-loss is going, I’ve lost a few other inches and my weight stayed the same-ish. We’re getting somewhere. :)

30 Days has November

by Becca

I’m always sad when I wake up Monday morning alone. It means the weekend is over and I must go back to doing chores and working.

This weekend went by so fast. After Friday night’s hang out with Chad and Trina, we spent Saturday grocery shopping. I know, it’s not exactly exciting.

Last month I planned out all our meals for a month, wrote them down, and then we went shopping for the whole month. This month I opted to try and do weekly meals only, so I planned out the meals for this week.

Shopping on Saturday took us three hours and about five stores. I looked through all the specials in the papers and determined what we’d be buying. There were also many necessary items that weren’t groceries to purchase such as: paper towels: dish soap, and a few other random items. We were out of a lot of staples. I don’t know about you, but when I add these to my grocery list, it adds up a lot.

So, we spent a good part of Saturday shopping and I spent the rest of it writing. I got up and did my blog posting first and then I wrote my novel.

After the mail came, we watched A Nightmare on Elm Street 6 and called it a night. Seriously, I don’t recall what we did Saturday night at all.

Sunday we got up and went to church (thanks extra hour of sleep). After church it was more novel and blog writing for me. I spent hours trying to find a free mac photo edit program, to no avail.

I want to upload pictures to flickr to include them in the blog and it finally worked.

I watched the Titans game online yesterday. Really, it was just a live graphic of the field where it showed their lineup. We’re totally 8-0 now and I fully believe we’re going to the Superbowl. We went in 1999 and I feel this is the year to make a comeback.

Last night I found myself catching up on Gossip Girl and writing more of the novel at the same time. I actually passed 5,000 words on the novel, so I am a day ahead. I wouldn’t mind writing more ahead today, it will help for Thanksgiving deadness that will probably occur.

I took some Sudafed medicine last night so I’d be able to go to sleep.

Chile decided last night to ring his bells ALL NIGHT LONG. So yeah, very sleepy and drugged Becca got up at 4 this morning to move his cage further away from our room.

I still feel very drugged, but perhaps I will have more interesting blogs this week. We’ll see.

Miss America 2008

by Becca

So, I have to say that I was quite disappointed that Miss Michigan won. I had my top three narrowed down to Washington, Texas with Wisconsin taking the crown. Oh well, better luck next year I guess. :) Gray and I finished the night by watching Mr. Brooks, a film that restores my faith in thrillers.

Grey's Anatomy and Wedding Planning

by Becca

So, before Encounter I made a decision to finally watch some Grey’s Anatomy. I bought Season One on dvd a year ago and so in the car on the way to Encounter, I watched the first few episodes.

I was hooked.

Once returning to the apartment, I ensued in watching the rest of the episodes. Yesterday, having gotten myself very addicted, I rented the entire Season 2, 5 DVDs worth.

Yes, my name is Becca and I’m addicted to Grey’s Anatomy.

Aside from television, I’ve been trying to get into the swing of job hunting. I’m making some adjustments to my resume and then next week I’m job hunting… Not so much fun.

I’ve also realized that the wedding is only 4 months away. Yes, people plan weddings in 4 months all the time, but for me, who has put off a few items, it’s time to kick the gears into action. Here are a few things to finish:

  • Deciding who is doing the Bridal Cake and who is doing the groom’s cake… we have options… just have to decide
  • Take my dress in to be altered … trying to make an appointment for the next few week
  • Order the Bridesmaid dresses … hopefully getting this done next weekend..
  • Talking with my aunt about the flowers
  • The dreaded doctor’s visit to go on b.c.
  • Wedding invitations… I’m putting them together myself.. I’ve done probably 20 out of 100 so far… Then I am enlisting the help of my bridesmaids to address them and all that jazz.

So yeah, I am really starting to get excited.

On a professional note, the entire semester I worked on Mass Comments, our alumni newsletter for Mass Comm and it’s now published! http://www.mtsu.edu/~masscomm/mass_cmts/winter2007_mc.pdf
