Addicted to Love

I have a problem.

It started off innocently enough.

I tried out something new and found that I loved it, and the time together gradually built up for a week and then something snapped in my head.

A few nights ago I couldn’t sleep well because I wanted to spend more time doing this, but alas, there is the whole husband, school, and work thing.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say I totally slacked off in all three of those for about three days. Thursday I woke up wishing I was sick enough to stay home, just so I could continue this… affair.

Folks, I am addicted to Bones.

For me, it started off because of the medical jargon, seriously. I enjoy the crime solving and it felt refreshing to hear them talking about the body. I mean, totally Anatomy and Physiology refresher course.

Then I got caught up in the romance. I am totally a Brennan/Booth fan. I was crushed by this season’s turn of events, but I think it’s getting better. If the writers toy with my heart, I will not be pleased.

You see, I’m really connecting to Brennan. Although I’m not as socially clueless or smart as she is, I’ve still been sheltered enough to not know certain things and I used to be like her emotionally. I know for those of you who know me it might be hard to believe, but until late high school, I never expressed any feels but kept them bottled up. I didn’t compartmentalize as well as her though, and eventually my personality shifted from total thinker to feeler.

So yeah, I’m loving this show, enough that I will actually be watching it live, instead of Grey’s Anatomy. I know, right? We currently only get abc and fox with our little baby antenna, and Bones is more exciting these days.

Sigh.

Extreme Makeover: Nashville

As many of you know, I grew up in McEwen, about 60 miles Southwest of Nashville, Tennessee. Nashville was the closest (real) movie theater, mall, and so much more for the first 17 years of my life.

While I was not born in Nashville, I consider it one of my homes. I’ve spent countless hours there over the years. My big sister lived in Nashville for a few years and even before then there were so many traditions tied to the city.

Like the first time I ever saw fireworks was when my parents took me to the downtown Nashville show. I can still remember watching them on my daddy’s shoulders.

How about my first roller coaster? Opryland (Rest in Piece) was our beloved theme park until the late 1990′s when it was sold out and demolished to bring Opry Mills… you know, the mall that was flooded back in May and still isn’t back? I’m just saying…

I spent countless hours at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center and War Memorial Buildings in my childhood, watching plays for school or touring shows from Broadway as I grew older. My first concert was at Starwood (Hanson!) for my 12th birthday.

All of this to say, I feel in love with the city of Nashville when I was just a kid and as much as I’ve traveled, I can truly say that there is no place I’d rather live near. In fact, I’m hoping to move closer to Nashville once we’re out of school because while I do like Murfreesboro, there is just something magical about Nashville.

I remember where I was May 1st when the flooding started. I was studying at the library with some nursing buddies because we had a final on Monday. I was scared because the tornado sirens went off, but I had no idea what was coming.

Gray and I actually went to our apartment (we were at campus when the rain started) because there was so. much rain. Our apartment is on the second floor, so we took our chances with tornadoes, but there weren’t any, just rain.

We went home and watched the flooding increase. At some point, the Lighthouse Christian school building floated down the interstate and disintegrated.

I knew it was serious at that point.

Flooding was so bad that MTSU canceled finals for Monday classes, something that never happens. I stayed glued to the television, internet, and phone… making sure my family and friends were alright. You see, Nashville flooded, but so did several counties in Middle Tennessee.

While my family was safe, a few schools back home were flooded and closed early for the summer. I was glad everyone was safe, but I was heartbroken at the destruction. A couple I know from high school is still rebuilding their home that was flooded.

The one thing you saw come from Nashville was love and support. It reminded me of “How The Grinch Stole Christmas,” at the end of the movie you see the Whos come together, even though Christmas was taken from them. See, that’s how Nashville was after the flood. Everyone came together to help each other.

There were a lot of us who were angry because we felt that the flood was not known to the nation. The day after the flood was when the oil spill became national news and took over the “spotlight.”

While I am still angry that the national news took so long to come to Nashville and show what was really going on, it didn’t change anything. The truth is, we are the Volunteer state and when the flood happening, we jumped in to help. Overall, the city turned out in masses to help those less fortunate, not rob or murder anyone. People were helping each other out of flooded cars and houses.

Because that is how Nashville is, how Tennessee is, really. We weren’t a big media story because we didn’t sit around, we got to work.

I’m glad Extreme Makeover came and helped the Lighthouse Christian school because now the nation might understand exactly what Nashville is about. We help out those less fortunate. We’ll always welcome you into our state with a smile on our face, some sweet tea, and a generous helping of y’all. We are called the Volunteer state for a reason. I can’t think of any other city I’d rather live near.

We are Nashville.

LOST: The Finale

** I’m going to go ahead and tell you not to read this if you don’t want to read spoilers for the entire series of LOST. **

So, last night was an epic moment in television. I haven’t watched the Jimmy Kimmel show yet, but I wanted to talk about the show, how I feel about the finale, and questions I still have.

There were some things I had figured out from the beginning… like I figured out the Christian Shepard name deal. I’m actually quite surprised that people missed that, but then again, I spent a lot of time in biblical theories so the name wasn’t surprising to me, as wasn’t David Shepard.

I knew that Desmond was the key to disabling the island, but I honestly wasn’t expecting the ending. I truly thought they would all meet up and somehow be a key to going back to the present day island and stopping Smokey.

That being said, the ending was perfect for what it was meant to be, however, I am still left with many questions. I wanted more closure about the island and a lot of the mysteries. The after-life deal is great and did provide some closure and happiness about the characters, but I just want more closure about the other mysteries.

My theory wasn’t quite off the wall, Desmond did his thing and the alternate reality was not truly an alternate reality. I never thought they were dead, but I did notice they were all happy, yet missing something. It wasn’t until the meet-up that they were all ready to move on because the missing pieces were back in their “lives.”

I still want to know more about the island, including what happened with Hurley and Ben after Jack died, but I think that the LOST people will probably put some extra on that nice boxed DVD set and I can’t wait for August! I wish we would have been told more about the history of the island, but it wasn’t the main purpose of the show.

I think it’s truly hard to be satisfied with the endings of these kind of shows, especially when you’ve built up theories for so long. Last year’s ending of Harper’s Island left questions with me and the director was kind enough to answer a lot of them on twitter, maybe the writers of LOST will do the same?

All I know is that answers or not, this was one of the best written television shows I’ve ever seen and if you haven’t watched it, you really should because I think we all need something like this in our lives.

I will be spending the next week reading forums to help me better understand some parts of the finale and then it’s time to move on, which oddly enough feels right.

LOST: Before the Finale

As I sit here, just a few short hours away from the finale, a lot is going through my mind. I’m not sure exactly how I first heard of LOST, I think it was back in 2006 when Gray mentioned a lottery ticket with the LOST numbers as a good Christmas present for his brothers. Back then, I didn’t watch, mainly because I knew I needed to play catch up and had no time to do so. I watched a few episodes in 2007 when I lived at Gables with the girls, but I was really confused.

So last summer (2009), I sat down with Netflix for three weeks and watched the first five seasons all at once. I was so hooked and couldn’t believe I had to wait for a few months to view the last season. Time passed by super fast and then along came February and season six. Today is the end of Lost and I feel like I’m on the edge of something great.

It’s always depressing when something ends, but in this case, I think it’s going to be the end of a great story. A story I want to own on DVD as a set.

Questions I want answered:
1. Who is Jack’s ex-wife in the alternate reality.
2. Will Kate end up with Jack or Sawyer?
3. Whatever happened to Walt?
4. Will something happened in the alternate reality to stop Smokey in the real one?
(may add more to list as day goes on and I remember them)

TV Addictions and the such

We’re back home and quite tired. The week at home was fun but exhausting as well. We had company over every night. This led to a very tired Becca by the end of the week. In fact, the normally social butterfly personality in my body left Thursday night.

I love my family, but sometimes I want some peace and quiet!

The worst part about coming home was finding out a package I had ordered was sent to the post office because no one was here to receive it. This means that I won’t be able to get it until Monday, which is quickly being piled with stuff to do… go to the library and pick up The Time Traveler’s Wife, go pick up package, go do this and that I can’t remember it all!

I’ve been watching Lost for two weeks now. I’m almost finished with season two and I must say, it’s addicting. However, I stand by my first idea: if you don’t watch it from beginning to end you will get bored and confused coming in halfway.

Chile survived the week at home and seemed happy to see us. Apparently he is just grumpy like me and needs time to himself sometimes.

We go back to school in a little over a week. I am not ready. The summer was way too short.

Who knew I had all of this on my mind?

I know.

I fell off the face of the earth.

Weigh-in blog entries are not that entertaining.

Well, in two weeks I will be done with school.

However, three weeks after that I will be back in school.

I know, I just might die in June, but I kind of hope not because in July I turn 24!

I made an A in my lab part of Anatomy and Physiology! I will be taking part two in June.

Hence, why I just might die.

Gray is still job hunting and we’re hoping he finds something pretty soon. He is doing pretty well in his classes from what he tells me. I mean, who else takes Physics and makes A’s in it? Seriously.

On Friday I begin my final training for the lab. I chose to go to these seminars: Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Networking.

Have I mentioned that I love my job?

I’m having a pretty good week so far. I proved to myself that I can study and make good grades. I’m hoping this pays off for Nursing school.

I’ve lost over an inch off my waist in a week, I love you Jillian Michaels!

I also sprained my calf muscle this week, but it hasn’t slowed me down too much.

Oh and I’m excited about television tonight, three new episodes of Survior, Grey’s Anatomy and Harper’s Island!

Did I mention that I am very into Harper’s Island? It’s one of the few shows Gray actually watches with me, which is good because I’ve gotten scared a few times.

We recently implemented a “no computer time” from dinner time until 9. It’s been working so far.

Oh, and lastly, I did not get one single bite of Easter candy. It wasn’t because I was strong, it’s because I totally forgot about it until there wasn’t any cadbury eggs left. I am still heartbroken.

I really want to go somewhere on vacation at the end of August, before school starts. However, there is the whole money issue. I’m hoping to save up over the next few months because I need to spread these wings!
