The Diva Cup

So, many of your are probably wondering what a diva cup is… fellows, you might want to not read the rest of the review as it’s going to deal solely with menstruation.

I was first introduced to the diva cup two years ago by a college roommate of mine. She bought the cup because it was supposedly good for dealing with cramps and pain associated with that time of the month.

I thought it was a good idea, you could save so much money by reusing a diva cup rather than tampons and pads, but at the time I wasn’t ready to invest the $30-50 I knew I’d have to pay to get one in my hands.

Fast forward to a month ago. I finally decided to purchase one, simply because I knew that long day at school would be a pain to deal with on “those” days.

I ended up purchasing type one, sized for women before they have kids or age 30, whichever comes first.

My biggest fear of using this cup was that it would get stuck up inside me. I am not the type of girl afraid of sticking things up there, I actually using the NuvaRing for birth control so it doesn’t phase me.

I must say, I was skeptical about the instructions that say the cup must easily turn for you to know it’s safely up in “there” and not going to leak. After a few times, I can say that this is the easiest thing I’ve ever done regarding my cycle. I was able insert the cup without issues, the only thing I did to change anything was to trim the stem as it was irritating my skin.

If you aren’t afraid of taking more control of your cycle, this is a good route to go. You will finally know how your cycle works and you will save money and the environment. The diva cup is completely safe, no radiation or other chemicals leak out of it, whereas tampons do release chemicals. Diva cups are guaranteed for a year, but I’ve heard of them lasting far longer with good care. I bought the diva cup wash and have been using it to wash out my cup.

The best part of this for me is that I only have to empty the cup twice a day. The diva cup can stay in for as long as 12 hours so you don’t have to hassle with it while at work or school. Totally a win win for me.

I shopped around to find the best price and shipping fees, and I suggest the same for any product. There are several other menstrual cups out there, so you can research and find the one that suits you best. The only different between diva cup type 1 and 2 is the width, with type 2 being slightly wider for obvious reasons.

I bought the Diva Cup myself and was not sponsored or paid to do this review by anyone. All opinions are my own based upon my experiences.

Joshua Bell: “At Home with Friends”

Joshua Bell At Home Cover

I must admit, even with my musical background (voice major/minor in college), I had never heard of Joshua Bell before given the opportunity to review his newest CD, At Home With Friends. I have to say, I did enjoy it.

The track list includes:

I Loves You Porgy featuring Chris Botti, trumpet
Come Again featuring Sting, vocals
Oblivion featuring Carel Kraayenhof, bandoneon
Cinema Paradiso featuring Josh Groban, vocals
Para Tí featuring Tiempo Libre, various
My Funny Valentine featuring Kristin Chenoweth, vocals
Maybe So featuring Edgar Meyer Sam Bush and Mike Marshall, strings
Grieg: Sonata No. 3 featuring Sergei Rachmaninoff (Zenph re-performance)
Eleanor Rigby featuring Frankie Moreno, piano & vocals
O, Cease Thy Maiden Fair featuring Nathan Gunn, baritone
Il Postino featuring Carel Kraayenhof, bandoneon
Left Hand Song featuring Regina Spektor, piano & vocals
Chovendo Na Roseira featuring Dave Grusin, piano
Look Away featuring Edgar Meyer, bass and Chris Thile, mandolin
Variant Moods: Duet for Sitar & Violin featuring Anoushka Shankar, sitar
I’ll Take Manhattan featuring Marvin Hamlisch, piano

My favorite song is “Eleanor Rigby” with Frankie Moreno. This song is a classic Beatles song and I love the way Bell plays the violin throughout the piece. My husband actually commented that he had hoped the violin would be amped, but regardless, it sounds amazing!

I do have to say, Bell has an impressive list of friends. I’m a big fan of Josh Groban and Kristin Chenoweth and was delighted to hear them singing along to his violin.

Overall, I’d say this is someone to watch because Mr. Bell is very talented.

Harry Connick Jr., “Your Songs”

Harry Connick Jr - Your Songs

When the One2One Network asked who wanted to do a review for Harry Connick Jr.’s newest cd, I jumped at the chance. I was not disappointed.  Harry’s voice reminds me a lot of Michael Buble, smooth and charming.  Your Songs is a mix of jazz favorites that will please even the smallest jazz fan.

You might be wondering where you recognize Harry from, and it’s no big surprise that this talented man is also an actor. I remember him best from his small role in Independence Day as Will Smith’s co-worker.

The tracklist:

All The Way (Frank Sinatra)
Just The Way You Are (Billy Joel)
Can’t Help Falling In Love With You (Elvis Presley)
And I Love Her (The Beatles)
(They Long To Be) Close To You (The Carpenters)
Besame Mucho
The Way You Look Tonight
First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (Roberta Flack)
Your Song (Elton John)
Some Enchanted Evening
And I Love You So (Don McLean)
Who Can I Turn To? (Tony Bennett)
Smile (Charlie Chaplin)
Mona Lisa (Nat King Cole)

My favorites were “The Way You Look Tonight,” “Your Song,” “Smile,” and “Mona Lisa.” Although the first three were always favorites of mine, “Mona Lisa” is a new song for my ears and I loved it!

Home is where your family is.

Once in a Blue Moon

This is not the type of book I will typically pick up and read but I have to say, it was amazing!

Lindsay and Kerri-Ann were young when their mother was arrested. They went to two different foster homes and grew up in completely different families. Lindsay grew up in Blue Moon Bay and grew to love the town. When her adoptive parents died, they left her their house and up until now everything had been peaceful. With a man on her heels to build a resort where her business is, Lindsay is over her head in a mess when Kerri-Ann shows up. Kerri-Ann hasn’t had an easy life, jumping from one foster parent to another. She has her own kid now, Bella, whom she lost custody of and is fighting to get her back. The sisters may not always see eye to eye, but they manage to surprise even themselves in this wonderful story.

I laughed, I cried, and I thoroughly enjoyed this story.

This review was not done for compensation. I had a wonderful opportunity to do this through the One2One Network, check them out!
