Thanksgiving Dinners

by Becca

Phew, I don’t even know where to begin.

Wednesday night, Gray and I left Murfreesboro at around 5:30 and took HWY 96 through Franklin and all the way to 40W in Dickson. We did this because traffic is usually insane and awful in Nashville at rush hour and if you combine that with Thanksgiving, it’s just worse.

We actually made it in about two hours, pretty good if you ask me. The next morning we drove to Memphis with my parents and had Thanksgiving lunch with Gray’s family. The rest of the day included shooting a BB gun, watching The Blind Side at the theater (AWESOME movie, especially since it takes place in Memphis at the school (under a different name) that Cathy went to, pretty cool!), came home and had leftovers, and then finished the night by watching Star Trek, which was also good.

This morning(Friday) we drove back to McEwen and went to my aunt’s for lunch and now I’m playing catch up on ALL the gazzilion emails and such that I got over the past two days.

I’ve been kind of cranky the past few days and I’m sure there is a reason behind it, but I’m just not sure. Regardless, I am still thankful for the time with my family.

Finally, tomorrow we drive back and I finally get my glasses, woohoo!

P.S. – I think I might actually be in love with Eric from True Blood, but in a fictional way of course. :)

Walking in Memphis

by Becca

We’re in Memphis for the week. Since Gray and I both have three weeks of nothing before school starts back, we thought it was be a great opportunity to visit with our families since the summer has been kind of dead in that category.

It’s definitely been an adventure so far. We walked three miles at Shelby Farms and did a drive by of Graceland. We also had a nasty run in at a McDonald’s downtown that had disgusting bathrooms. I’m sure you realize we didn’t stay there to get ice cream.

I’ve been reading the Sookie Stackhouse series and I’m almost finished with book one and luckily brought book two with me (Thanks Trina!). I’ve also started watching Lost season one and although I’m not addicted, I can see how people get obsessed with the show.

Today Gray and I are hopefully going to the zoo so my next post will hopefully be more appealing to read.

On a side note, what do you think about the health care reform? I think a lot of people are not reading for themselves and are judging it based on the misrepresentation of facts by others. I’m not sure exactly what I think about President Obama’s plan, but I do agree that the health care industry needs reform of some kind.

Weekend Updates

by Becca

Over the weekend a lot has happened. My Uncle Jim passed away on the same day my sister eloped in New Orleans. I’m stuck in Murfreesboro for the entire month because of work and school and I can’t help to think about how perfect all that timing was…

It’s hard to believe that I finished a week of summer school and only have four more to go.

There is much to say, but unfortunately, no time to say it currently.

Snow!

by Becca

So it snowed overnight and we got about 4 inches in the apartment complex, amazing! I was relieved to receive a phone call saying that church was cancelled, I’m not quite ready to teach 3 year olds yet!

Gray and I have been pretty lazy today but have run around doing errands. We bought some more girl scout cookies which will surely put an end to my diet. Oh well. It’s nice to know that I do not have homework due tomorrow, yay!

We’re looking forward to spring break more than ever and are so glad we’ll get to see family soon!

Weekend Review

by Becca

I’m currently sitting at work (I picked up some extra hours), working on ChaCha (my online job that I do every so often).

So I’m making money in two different way at the same time!

Yeah, I’m a little weird.

This weekend has gone by so fast, probably because Gray and I have both worked and that sucks away our time together. Saturday I had the opportunity to go with my sister and parents to look for wedding gowns for my sister. She got engaged about a week ago. After dress shopping we went out to eat at my favorite new joint, Five Guys Burgers and Fries, delish. Later that night I got to hang with Trina for a little while for some much needed girl time.

This morning at church was a good reminder of setting your priorities straight. I tend to push things like God and my marriage aside because I know they will be there. It’s very hard, but I try my best to make God and Gray a priority in my life. Not so easy when you try, but well worth it.

Did I mention I signed up to teach 3 year olds at church? I start next Sunday and I’m beginning to wonder what I’ve gotten myself into, I guess we’ll find out.

Tonight are the Oscars and I will probably be watching them. It’s amazing how we only have ten channels, but can always find something to watch. I’m certainly glad I am not addicted to television, but it’s a nice time to relax.

Tonight we went to Wal-mart to grab a few items and so I could do my sociology homework. I had to find 5 boy toys and 5 girl toys and document them in a paper. I realized that we pay so much more for girl toys and they are all related to “housewife” activities… cooking toys, baby dolls, and dress up. Boys, on the other hand, play with trucks, spy toys, and random anime cards. It’s amazing how different the two groups are marketed at.

On my last random note, we bought sourdough bread tonight to make croutons with Pioneer Woman style… yummy!

Another Year Older

by Becca

Today is my birthday and I am now 23 years old.

This past week has felt… surreal. I was excited about my birthday and the fact that I get to spend it with my husband, yet I am realizing that as we grow older, birthdays become less meaningful.

To celebrate with my friends, I went to a murder mystery party, hosted by Trina and Gray.

The apartment was decorated, including dead body.

The party itself was a lot of fun. I found out immediately that my character was the murderer so I had to keep a straight face and throw people off my trail. It was hard to do, mainly because the facts gave it away obviously.

Trina and Chad went all out on the decorating.

It looked pretty amazing.

Gray made me a cake and Trina made Chad cupcakes with sparkler candles. Overall, it was great and I was glad to spend some time with my friends. Work keeps me pretty busy and so I spend the majority of my free time with Gray these days.

Gray got me an ice cream cake for my birthday.

It’s pretty much the best cake… ever. haha

Today we went and got haircuts and then went to the pet store to play with puppies and kitties. We’re actually contemplating getting a kitten. Yes, we have a chinchilla already, but I really want either a kitten or a puppy and puppies are not quite as easy to have in an apartment. We’re going to be saving up for one, so we’ll see when we get it… I’m about halfway there. We saw a few siamese mix cats today and he agreed they were nice. The employees at the store said that siamese cats are more like dogs, they are vocal and get attached to their owners. We’ll see what happens…

My parents also came up and took us out to dinner. It was so nice to see them and we enjoyed spending some time with them. I wish we could go visit but I’d rather save our money than spend it on gas to get there.

And since this post is sort of random, here’s a picture of me and my little guy.
