Now, although my maiden name was Cook, I didn’t enjoy cooking until high school and even then, it was more of a last minute effort if I was starving. At college I didn’t have a proper kitchen to cook in, except the year I lived in Beasley so I was forced to eat off my free lunch plan as a RA and starve the other years. Kidding, mostly.
When I moved in to an apartment this past fall, I suddenly realized, “I’m getting married in 9 months, I should start cooking so I’m used to it by then.” So I began to cook here and there. It was hard to do so because I had a very busy fall schedule. Cooking and I had a few rough patches, until January came. Having no job and being frustrated with trying to find one, I took up cooking.
First it was the spices, Trina introduced me to the basics and then suddenly, I was opened to a whole new world. I was trying new recipes, cooking a lot and then there was Pampered Chef. I went to a party, got a new recipe and a lovely measuring cup that is my best friend.
Now I am a frequenter to allrecipes.com, an amazing resource and a few cooking blogs. The picture is from the other night when I cooked a new recipe, hot crush potatoes from thepioneeerwoman.com. Gray said it was one of the best meals I’ve made yet. He also loves the cheesecake chews I made yesterday.
So now I really enjoy cooking and baking foods, especially when my husband enjoys them, which isn’t really that hard. I was blessed to get an awesome cookbook as a wedding present and I’ve subscribed to a cooking magazine. I think cooking is highly understated.
I should have been a professional cook, but I’ll settle for being Gray’s.

So today I went and turned in an application at one of the four/five Starbucks in town. Gray had called on Wednesday and they have some morning hours available, so hopefully I will get called in for an interview… hopefully. We also drove by the Olive Garden that is opening. They start accepting applications Wednesday to open in late February. If I don’t hear from Starbucks by Wednesday, I’m going to go put in an application.
I spent last night finishing up the first batch of wedding invitations. 50. completed. Now I just need to do the other part and decide if I’m going to get another box. I also need to finish doing the favors and print favor thank yous and directions to go in the invites. Then I will be hosting a bridesmaid hangout where I politely force them to do my bidding. mwhaha
It is absolutely crazy to think that we’re almost under the 100 day mark. I thought I’d NEVER get there… just so much time to pass. It is, however, becoming quite the fun experience as I slow down and realize I’m getting married in a few short months! Ideas have been popping up for bridal showers and the bachelorette party, both of which I’m excited about.
On another note, last night I went to my first Pampered Chef party, and I loved it! Trina and I arrived a bit later, but we got see the amazing cook items in action. My favorite recipe of the night was for what they called Monkey Bread. Trina and I liked it so much that tonight I bought the ingredients and a fluted cake pan from Wal-mart and we made it and boy was it GOOD! I took twenty dollars with me last night that I had set aside to purchase something for the kitchen. I ended up getting the Measure All Cup:

and a few one dollar cookbooks that they put out semi-annually with the 24 best recipes. I will get them all in the mail in a few weeks.
After we got back I immediately went and updated our wedding registry with a few items that I saw used last night. So, check out Pampered Chef, because it seems like a pretty sweet line of kitchen items.

So, what does a person who is jobless do during the day? Well, I spent my day doing some slight wedding planning. One of my bridesmaids/roommates and I watched a few wedding videos on youtube and then spent some time discussing how I want the wedding day to go and the reception. We’re working on getting dancing at the reception, it’s not set in stone yet, so that’s something that will hopefully be in the works.
Other than that, I’m working on putting my gears into action to finish the invitations. This past weekend Gray and I traveled to Memphis to spend time with his family. It turned out to be a rather enjoyable weekend. The are adding on to their house and it was neat to look at the architecture plans. I think I missed my calling because I love looking at them.
I’m still job searching and tomorrow I plan to apply at a few more places. Right now I’m thinking of just getting something close and maybe in retail, so I’ll have something to fill my days. Really, I’ll talk whatever I can get right now. I’ve really enjoyed my time off after the hectic semester I had in the fall. I’m starting to realize that I like staying at home and probably will do so when Gray and I have kids, or at least part of the time.
Hopefully there will be more exciting news to post this weekend. Thursday I am going to my first Pampered Chef show with Trina and then this weekend the Miss America pageant will be on and our dear friend Leah is coming up to visit, so the weekend shall be fun!.
